It is amazing how inspired and committed we become to what we hear. Most of our lives have been shaped positively or negatively by the example, vision, and words of other people. I don't know how many original thoughts I've had in life, probably very few. However, I do know when I am representing someone else I am suppose to re---present their heart and words to others.
For many years I fellowshipped, submitted to, and supported some very powerful leaders. In the early 90's one of these leaders, the most flamboyant and gifted, began declaring what seemed to me to be an authoritative and accurate prophecy. The word was a warning that all the institutions of America (Government, Banking, Education, Religious, etc. etc.) were under the judgment of God and they would all fall in 1993. I heard this word many times over the course of a couple a years and at some point the thought of "The Fall of 1993" became galvanized in my mind. As 1993 drew close the fervor and ominous nature of the word seemed to grow also.
Then in late 1992 I decided to stand and minister this word to the Church I pastored. The worship time that morning had been good. I was excited about delivering this wise insight about the future of America. As I began to speak the passion of the word began to grip me. I was warning the people to prepare for hard times. I was tearing into the godless institutions and their faithless leaders. I had been going about 10minutes and was just getting warmed up when in mid sentence the Lord spoke to me. "When did I ever say anything to you about the Fall of 1993". I sputtered to a screeching halt. I was totally disconcerted. I stepped back from the pulpit dizzy with the abruptness of the Lords interruption. I was puzzled and frightened as I stared helplessly at the second shelf of the pulpit. The question resonated in my mind. "When did I ever say anything to you about the Fall of 1993". Weakly, I answered, "You haven't Lord". The Lord didn't hesitate, "That's right; I've never spoken anything to you about this matter. You have only added your word to your neighbors." I felt faint and distraught. What was I to do? Like the wooden Indian in the cigar store I stood like a statue, immobilized by the weight of these words. Years of minutes went by as my mind raced for a solution. I really didn't have anything else prepared to speak on. Feebly, I finally glanced up at the congregation waiting to hear this wisdom. "Folks, the Lord just told me He has never spoken to me about the fall of 1993. I've only added my words to my neighbors' word. I ask you to forgive me, I am sorry. It will not happen again. You are dismissed." Proverbs 30:5 - 6 (KJV)Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. 6Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.
Deuteronomy 4:2 (KJV) 2Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.
Ezekiel 13:1-6 (KJV) And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 2Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel that prophesy, and say thou unto them that prophesy out of their own hearts, Hear ye the word of the LORD; 3Thus saith the Lord GOD; Woe unto the foolish prophets, that follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing! 4O Israel, thy prophets are like the foxes in the deserts. 5Ye have not gone up into the gaps, neither made up the hedge for the house of Israel to stand in the battle in the day of the LORD. 6They have seen vanity and lying divination, saying, The LORD saith: and the LORD hath not sent them: and they have made others to hope that they would confirm the word.
Ezekiel - 23 (KJV) Likewise, thou son of man, set thy face against the daughters of thy people, which prophesy out of their own heart; and prophesy thou against them, 18And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Woe to the women that sew pillows to all armholes, and make kerchiefs upon the head of every stature to hunt souls! Will ye hunt the souls of my people, and will ye save the souls alive that come unto you? 19And will ye pollute me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to slay the souls that should not die, and to save the souls alive that should not live, by your lying to my people that hear your lies? 20Wherefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against your pillows, wherewith ye there hunt the souls to make them fly, and I will tear them from your arms, and will let the souls go, even the souls that ye hunt to make them fly. 21Your kerchiefs also will I tear, and deliver my people out of your hand, and they shall be no more in your hand to be hunted; and ye shall know that I am the LORD. 22Because with lies ye have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, by promising him life: 23Therefore ye shall see no more vanity, nor divine divinations: for I will deliver my people out of your hand: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
